sunday_reveries :: Joseph Heller Quote
"I wonder what kind of person would come out if I ever did erase all my inhibitions at once, what kind of being is bottled up inside me now."
-Joseph Heller
When Kira realized she was actually going home for her birthday, her mom was the first one she called. Next came Conner, but while he was in Reefside now, he'd be gone by the time she got there. Ethan didn't pick up his phone, but she seriously doubted he was there. She skipped Trent altogether. Not that she didn't want to call him, but things were just...awkward between them lately.
Next person on her list? Cassidy Cornell.
"Kira, hey!"
"Hey Cass, guess what?"
"Oh my God, you got a record deal?!"
Kira laughed a little. Of course that's the first thing she'd guess. "I wish. But, I am coming home for my birthday..."
"You are?! Great! I'll throw you a huge party with red velvet cake and plenty of Ben &Jerry's!"
"Thanks, but everyone's busy and you know I don't want one with a bunch of people I don't know."
"Oh, right. I knew that."
"Don't worry, we'll have cake and ice cream, just the two of us."
"Is that before or after you see Oliver?"
Her question made Kira blush.
Dr. Tommy Oliver, former teacher, and unknown to anyone but Cassidy and Tori, still very much the unrequited crush.
"Cassidy..."
"Don't tell me it's not the first place you'll go after you settle in. I know you."
Kira sighed, knowing she was right. "Yeah, but...it's not like they'll ever be anything there. And I mean, what would Mom think?"
"Since when does Kira Ford care about what people think?"
"Since I'm sort of in love with my old science teacher, and I'm pretty sure he knows it. I mean, he's just got those eyes that when he looks at you, you just know he's staring straight into your soul."
"Well...you never know..."
Yeah, you never know, but Kira wasn't about to take any chances and let any of those feelings come to the surface when she was around him. He was her mentor and her friend and she was sure that's all he'd ever be.
