Oh dear God.

Kira pulled her pillow over her head, trying to muffle the most annoying sound she'd ever heard: the snoring of fellow yellow Waldo "Dustin" Brooks.

A camping trip had sounded nice when Tori mentioned it. It was a meeting of Rangers in a relaxed environment, those who had come together when the Overdrive team lost their connection to the grid, plus a teammate or two from their own teams. It was good to see them all again, especially Mack who was thoroughly enjoying his recently granted humanity. Add to that the automatic friendship she struck up with the Rocca sisters Vida and Maddie and their plans to work together in the future, and this weekend was an amazing success.

She felt Dustin, however, should be shot in the head, immediately.

She'd settle for kicking him in the morning.

"Bitch."

Kira didn't have a family.

Okay, that's not true. She had her mom as far as blood went. Then there were the four guys she fought with and sometimes against during her last year of high school.

Still, that didn't matter here. Here in this fucked up dimension? She was just a character on some lame ass kids' show, pulled from her home world—or possibly just brought to life—to fight in a war the residing god-like beings had decided to rage. Her family? It didn't exist outside Toon Disney.

Of course she didn't count on getting this close to anyone in—mostly the same boat. His show was badass and his brother was back from the dead, but he could identify with her on at least a few things. Half the time they fought, but somehow they'd managed to forge something of a familial relationship.

Enough of one to afford the insulting nickname that would follow his.

"Brat."

Color was everything to a Power Ranger. It seemed like every one so far had been inexplicably attracted to their own as far as wardrobe went. It was just a thing.

Of course, things were a little different now. Kira had added a new color to her closet, one she was slowly growing very fond of.

Green.

She wore it because of him. Yeah, he'd had other colors in the past, but there were reasons she'd picked the one she had. Red was also Conner's, white was also Trent's. Black was a little too basic. Not only was green the only option not linked to another team member, or just a little too classic, it was his first. She never could be sure if he still felt the guilt that came with being Rita's chosen and almost killing his friends while under that spell, but if he did, this was her way of saying it didn't matter to her. It could all happen again tomorrow and it still wouldn't matter. She knew who he was: a hero and the man she loved.

Yeah, she still wore her own, but with an added bonus. Yellow and green went great together, and so did they. Whenever she wore it, no matter where she was, it made her feel closer to him. It was almost like he was there, watching over her, taking care of her like she knew he loved to do.

Green just felt good on her, because to her, green was Tommy Oliver.
melodiousyellow: (writer's block)
Monsters she could handle. Sort-of boyfriends that were slowly turning evil? Yep. The disturbing idea of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd conceiving a child? Eww, but still in the realm of being dealt with.

But this? This was writer's block, the evil to overcome all evils. Only one thing could come from it: boredom.

This case was especially bad. She wanted to write, but everything that came out was just crap, crap she just crumbled up and tossed at the trash can.

Kira studied the pile that had built up. Maybe it could be flaming crap. At least that would keep her entertained.
melodiousyellow: (curious)
Damnit, Kira, look away!

Yes, she was swearing at herself. If she'd been far enough away from human contact she'd probably have done it out loud. Not loudly out loud, but to herself out loud.

Seriously, stop staring. If you keep staring, he's going to catch you. And hey, he's a ginormo version of Conner fucking McKnight!

Well, not exactly. He was smarter than Conner. A lot smarter. But still, there was an uncanny resemblance. And they could both be stubborn jackasses on occasion.

Oh great, drool.

Of course, it was about this time that he turned to look at her.

"What?"

Kira shook her head.

"Nothing, Sam."

"I wonder what kind of person would come out if I ever did erase all my inhibitions at once, what kind of being is bottled up inside me now."
-Joseph Heller

When Kira realized she was actually going home for her birthday, her mom was the first one she called. Next came Conner, but while he was in Reefside now, he'd be gone by the time she got there. Ethan didn't pick up his phone, but she seriously doubted he was there. She skipped Trent altogether. Not that she didn't want to call him, but things were just...awkward between them lately.

Next person on her list? Cassidy Cornell.
