Sometimes she felt like this city hated her.
Back in Reefside, she had a fanbase. It was small, and pretty much limited to her classmates and anyone who frequented Cyberspace. She missed that internet cafe, Hayley's smiling face behind the counter, the times Tori would drive from Blue Bay Harbor just to hear her play. In New York, nobody seemed to care about Kira Ford. When she was on stage, she was singing to air, strumming her guitar to the tune of billiard balls and Samuel Adams. If anyone even looked at her, she never saw them.
Tonight didn't seem any different. It was open mic at one of her frequent visits and the same old thing. She picked a song and everyone ignored her.
I see that you wanna get lost inside me
Too many words
People say too many things
They take you away
Whether you wanna go
Let it all sadden
Drown your tears in my pettled hair
They're just words
So talk to me
I promise no one else will hear
They're just words
It won't hurt me
So if you wanna say something
Just say it, say it to me
Whisper to me in the voice
The one that's only heard by me
Tell me all the things you only told me in your dreams
Whatever you say
I won't leave
I won't judge you for what you believe
Be it good or bad
It's all the same to me
They're just words
So talk to me
I promise no one else will hear
They're just words
It won't hurt me
So if you wanna say something
Just say it, say it to me
So baby just scream and shout
Anything to get it out
Maybe even throw things
Hurt my feelings
Zip it up, said enough
But you know it's not enough
Don't you know by now
Forgiveness, it's a steal
They're just words
They're just words
So talk to me
I promise no one else will hear
They're just words
It won't hurt me
So if you wanna say something
Just say it, say it to me
Say it to me
When she was done, she thanked her nonexistent audience and went to the bar for a drink. It wouldn't always be this way, she told herself. She just had to keep pushing through her lameass waitress job and take every opportunity that came her way. Eventually, somebody had to notice her.

Ruby had gone off to find the Impala, and meanwhile Dean had hopped a Greyhound to NYC. It would be harder to track him in an area as filled with people as it was here, which is what Dean needed.
When the singer sat down next to him, Dean lifted his head. "Give her a drink on my tab," he told the guy, then flashed her a quick smile before going back to his beer.

She grinned a little. Can't argue with that. "Don't tell me you were actually listening."

"Way better than some people I've heard at an open mic night, that's for sure."

"I'm Dean, by the way."

She took a drink of her own beer without taking her eyes off him. "So what brings you to NYC? I mean, I haven't seen you in here before. Figured you haven't been here for long."

He turned to face her a bit more, looking over the crowd a bit before focusing on her. "So... Kira... why did you choose this place to play in? Kinda low standards for someone with your talent I'd think."
